review, and control of all manual and computerized engineering and design calculations.

-;,z 2.0 GENERAL l

All manual and computerized engineering and design calculations shall be:

r i.,

l Prel, ered such that the analysis can be understood by an T

individual ccanpetent in the calculation discipline l

withou. recourse to the preparer of the calculation.

Legibly' documented in a form suitable for microfilm, 9

microfiche, and/or xerographic reproduction.

Signed and dated by the preparer (s) and reviewer (s) to l

indicate fulfillment of their assigned I

responsibilities.

^

3.0 PREPARATION i

3.1 Calculations (including revisions, cancellations, and related correspondence) shall be prepared according to b

Attachments 1.1 through 1.6.

Use of the forms / sections listed in these attachments is not mandatory, but the contents they require must be included.

3.2 Calculations based on preapproved calculation methods shall meet the requirements of paragraph 3.1, above, except that the

" method" need only be referenced in the calculation and not restated in detail.

3.3 Division standard calculations and calculations prepared for another Project which meet the requirements of Section 12.0 may be duplicated as follows:

Make a

complete copy of the calculation being duplicated.

l Prepare a

new Title Page containing all information shown on Attachment 1.2: this page must provide clear identification of the calculation being duplicated.

Include a detailed list of changes, if any.

For QA Category I calculations only, include the reason

~

for the changes.

EAP 5.3, Rev. 3

/*

Page 3 Attach the Title Page and list of changes, if any, to the copy of the calculation obtained; do not remove the original Title Page.

4.0 REVISION METHODS

~

Calculations shall be revised by any method that provides:

A record of the calculation contents before and after revision.

Accountability for all pages of the revision and the previous calculation.

", Clear identification of the changes.

j t

For QA Category I calculations only, the reason for the changes.

?

NOTE:

Typical revision methods are given in Attachment 2.0.

5.0 CANCELLATIONS

,. g When a

calculation is voided and will not be replaced, the CII.1-j title (first) page only shall be marked

" Void,"

and t

initialed by a responsible supervisor.

A

" Notice of

^

Cancellation" containing the information shown in Attachment 1.6 shall be issued by the preparing group to those identified on the calculation distribution list.

GENERAL NOTE:

The functions assigned to the " preparing group" CII.1 throughout this EAP may be performed by a representative of the same discipline when determined appropriate by the Division Chief (e.g.,

a Lead Engineer may maintain the calculation indices and files of Equipment Specialist calculations).

l 6.0 REVIEW 6.1 All calculations and revisions shall be reviewed before the results and/or conclusions are used to arrive at or confirm an engineering decision.

6.2 All calculations and subsequent revisions shall be reviewed according to Attachment 3.0.

7.0 INDEXING Each group preparing calculations shall establish and maintain a Calculation Index as shown in Attachment 4.0.

EAP 5.3, Rev. 3 Page 4 Otf project staff groups maintaining indices shall prepare a separate index for each project.

8.0 DISTRIBUTION The preparing group shall distribute calculations (including revisions, cancellations, and related correspondence) according to the calculation distribution list prepared accordhg to Attachment 1.2.

The preparing group shall keep the list.167r each calculation up to date.

m

.k 9.0 FILING i,

9.1 Each prepiring group shall maintain calculation files

'9 separate for each job order.

The files shall contain:

All current calculations, revisions, superseded (voided) calculations, and. cancellations prepared by the group.

Calculation Indexes Related calculation correspondence identified in

..6.

9.2 Each preparing group shall send a copy of the following to the Project for entry into the Project Records Management files as required by EAP 17.2 or, if one is not established, to a fire file (i.e., a file in a different building ).

CH.1 All current calculations, revisions, superseded (voided) calculations, and cancellations prepared by the group.

Calculation Indexes (at least quarterly).

10.0 CONFIRMATION OF INPUTS AND ASSUMPTIONS When inputs / assumptions of an issued calculation that are marked " Requires Confirmation" are confirmed, the superv1sor of the group who prepared the calculation shall prepare and distribute a transmittal according to Attachment 1.6 or I

prepare and issue a

revision of the calculation plus necessary revised results transmittals to notiry recipients of the updated status.

11.0 REOUIREMENTS FOR THE USE OF CALCULATION RESULTS 11.1 Recipients of calculation results (copies or results only) prepared by another group are responsible to assure that members of his/her group using the results are advised of changes received.

2 s

11.2 Upon receipt of notification from the preparing group that the calculation has been canceled or inpu*./ assumptions requiring confirmation have been confirmed, recipients of comolete copies of the calculation shall mark the current sta, ps on the calculation and initial and date the entry.

}

12.0 D_UPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Calculations prepared for another project and Division c

standarc. calculations may be duplicated provided that:

'2he duplicator has determined that the calculation to be duplicated adequately meets the requirements of the duplicating project.

The calculation's existing documentation provides all

+

the information required by Attachments 1.1 through 1.5

' to this

EAP, or the existing documentation can be supplemented by the duplicator to meet these requirements.

A copy of all documents that are identified as sources of input and those documents necessary to understand the calculation or verify its adequacy are obtained, or are maintained in a manner that satisfies the permanent l

plant record requirements of the duplicating project (see EAP 17.2).

For nuclear power projects QA Category I calculations only, the calculation to be exactly duplicated has been previously reviewed by an Independent Reviewer.

NOTE:

If the calculation to be exactly duplicated has not been previously reviewed by an Independent

Reviewer, the duplicate calculation shall be prepared according to paragraph 3.3 and then independently reviewed.

13.0 PREPARATION AND OUALIFICATION OF PREAPPROVED CALCULATION METHODS 13.1 Divisions may prepare a manual or computeri=ed Preapproved Calculation Method that is intended for repeated use with calculations having the same objective.

EAP 5.3, Rev. 3 Page 6 Preapproved Calculation Methods shall be documented according to EAP 5.25.

13.2 Manual methods shall be documented as follows:

-r Unique identification (titles and/or numbers) to allow referencing.

Definition of the scope (l imitations) of the method and the hiculation objectives for which the method 'is s

appropriate.

i Documenhation of Independent review when the method is likely (to be used to perform a QA' Category I

g calculation.

~

Clear identification of assumptions used in constructing the method.

13.3 A Preapproved Calculation Method must be qualified, before

~

use, as follows:

i A manual calculation method shall be qualified by the preparation of a typical calculation using the method.

The typical calculation shall be prepared, reviewed,

('

and approved according to the requirements of this EAP, and shall be included as part of the Division documentation.

NOTE:

For nuclear power projects QA Category I methods only, the typical calculation prepared to qualify the method must be Independently reviewed.

A computerized calculation method shall be qualified according to the requirements of EAP 5.25.

14.0 RELATED PROJECT AND DIVISION PROCEDURES / DOCUMENTS 14.1 E,ach Project Engineer shall issue a Project instruction to establish a system for numbering calculations prepared for the Project.

14.2 Each Division shall prepare a Division technical procedure that establishes the following:

A system for numbering or otherwise identifylng preapproved calculation methods prepared by the Division.

A system for numbering, indexing, and filing Division standard calculations.
