WASHINGTON, D.C. 2055MX)01 May 28, 1993 Docket No. 50-443 SEA-93-011 i

l Mr. Ted C. Feigenbaum Senior Vice President, and Chief Nuclear Officer North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation Post Office Box 300- _

Seabrook, New Hampshire 03874

Dear Mr. Feigenbaum:

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (TAC NO. M85020).

By letter dated November 25, 1992, North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation i

submitted a proposed amendment (License Amendment Request 92-14) to the l

Seabrook Station Technical Specifications that would permit the fixed incore L

detectors to be utilized to perform technical specification surveillances by incorporating the fixed incore detectors into the definition of the incore detector system. Report YAEC-1855P, "Seabrook Station Unit 1 Fixed Incore-l l

Detector System (FIDS) Analysis", was submitted to support the proposed amendment.

We are reviewing the proposed amendment and the supporting information, but for us to complete our review, the following information related to YAEC-1855P is required:

j 1.

A description of your software QA testing program for the fixed incore detector system data acquisition and processing software.

2.

A description of the software modifications required-for modeling platinum

)

detectors that were made to the previously-reviewed CASMO-3/ SIMULATE-3

'l code package and a discussion of the benchmarking results.

1 j

3.

It is stated that 25% of' the tota 1' detector: signal is derived from neutron flux response. ~ How much of the signal is due tof the response to thermal; neutrons alone? How does the thermal and total > neutron flux response vary 4

with core residence lifetime? How are multibundle effects represented?

4.

If it is not necessary to treat the effects of platinum depletion, present a quantitive numerical analysis on why this.effect can be neglected.

5.

An explanation of why the ratios of fixed / movable inferred " measured" Fy (Table 5.6) and F (Table 5.7) decrease with cycle exposure. -Does this indicate a burnup. dependent bias between the fixed and movable incore.

detector signal-to-power conversion methodologies?.
