SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE  :

DOCKET No. 50-266 UNIT NAME POINT BEACH UNIT 1 DATE JUNE 8, 1990 COMPLETED BY J. W. JACK TELEPHONE 414/755-2321 Unit 1 began this report period undergoing the final stages of refueling outage U1R17. Reactor coolant system restoration was complete on May 9, 1990; however, a pin hole leak was discovered on control rod drive mechanism D-4. The leak was repnired, and Unit 1 achieved criticality on May 17, 1990. The unit was then brought on line on May 19, 1990, and subsequently taken off line briefly to facilitate turbine overspeed testing.

On May 10, 1990, an I&C technician inadvertently doenergized a test signal generator to the steam generator level instrument. '

The reacter protection system then generated a reactor trip signal upon receipt of a 2 out of 3 trip logic for low-low steam generator level (Licensee Event Report 90-005).

Safety-related maintenance completed during the month included:

Increased the flow capacity of backup nitrogen to PORVs, rebuilt and tested various snubbers (HS-7, 15, 16, 601R-37A), replaced RHR pump motor and coupling (P-10A), refurbished various main steam valves, and cleaned boric acid from and adjusted packing on various reactor coolant system valves.
