SUBJECT:
EXTENSION OF CONTRACT WITH ALAN ROSENTHAL FOR INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES The term of the current contract with Alan S. Rosenthal to conduct certain investigations on behalf of the Commission expires on September 30, 1989.
As you are aware, the major impediment to Judge Rosenthal's completion of his tasks is the failure of Stephen Comley to honor the NRC subpoena that has been enforced by the Federal District Court in Massachusetts.
Resolution of the Comley matter does not appear iminent.
Accordingly, I propose that we extend the contract for Judge Rosenthal's j
services to December 31, 1989.
Should further extensions appear appropriate, the issue can be addressed at that time.

Modify the contract to:
1.
Provide an additional $2,000.00 in funding to perform the work required through September 30, 1989.
2.
Extend the period of performance to December 31, 1989 and provide nominal funding in the amount of $1,000.00 to cover anticipated sporadic effort during the period October I, 1989,to December 31, 1989.
