.The enclosed report of a vendor inspection visit to the Drnvo Corporation on January 7-9, 1969, is forwarded for infor::stion. The primary purpose of this inspection was to review the quality assurance programs associated with the fabrication of pressure piping for certain reactor pro,1ects.
It vns scheduled at this time beenuse of deficiencies cetected in stain-less steel piping shipped by Dravo to the Indian Point 2 cite. This problem is discussed in CO Heport No. 247/68-5 The existence of fissures in certain stainless steel piping that was shipped from Dravo to the Indian Point 2 cite resulted frc::1 inadequate inspection requirements at the vendor plant. Dravo's inspection pro-gram has been noticeably strengthened since the discovery of this problem. The prompt detection of this proble:s at the C nsolidated Edison site reflects credit on their receipt inspection program.
Our audit of Dravo's current fabrication and quality control activities, relating to piping systems for Dresden 2 and 3, Quad Citics 1 and 2, Indian Point 2, and Turkey Point 3 and 4, choved that corrective measures have been taken and that these activities are nov vell documented and in i
compliance with codes, standards, specifications, and good practices.
On the other hand, the vendor inspection programs being carried out at Dravo by applicants, with the exception of Turkey Point 3 and 4, were noted to have notable venlutosses. Thece deficiencies are being pursued as part of our routine construction inspection program.
