NUREG-0737 ITEM II.F.1.3 IMPLEMENTATION Gentlemen:

Your letter of January 12,

1982, requested notification of any deviations from the design specifications or schedule associated with item II.F.1.3, Accident Monitoring, of NUREG-0737.

Such deviations were previously noted in our July 1, 1981, and November 4, 1981, letters.

NUREG-0737 Item II.F.1.3 specifies linear energy response within + 20%

for photons of 0.1 MeV to 3 MeV energy.

As noted in our July 1,1981 letter, we have been unable to find commercially available equipment which will meet this specification.

The equipment planned for use in this application, Victoreen Type 877-1, will have a linearity approximately within 2 40% over the energy range specified due to shielding requirements.

However, this instrumentation is considered accurate enough to provide usable information.

At present, there is no vendor which we know of that can provide the response required in Item II.F.1.3 due to the shielding factor of the instrument.

Our November 4,

1981, request for extension noted that parts and documentation necessary for complete installation could not be obtained for an outage of sufficient duration prior to January 1, 1982.

We therein requested an extension of the implementation deadline to the first outage (as defined in our November 4,1981 letter) after all required equipment was available on site.

We hope that by reference to these two letters we have addressed the issues raised by your January 12, 1982 letter.

If you require further information, please contact this office.

Very truly yours, h

J. T. Beckham, Jr WEB /mb xc:
