V. C. Suriner Nuclear Staticn Docket No. 50/395 Diesel Gmerator Vibraticn SER Lice 1 sing Ccnditicn 1.8.11

Dear Mr. Dmtcn:

In a letter to you, dated December 10, 1980, South Carolina Electric and Gas Ccmpany (SCE&G) respcnded to a request by the Staff to provide additicnal informatial regarding the effect of diesel gelerator vibraticn cn skid-mounted ccntrol panels. In sumary, that respmse provided discussicn md described verificatial programs which we believed should provide the Staff with adequate assurance that vibraticn loading is not a problem. However, to provide additicnal assurance, we ccmnitted to take vibraticn measurenuits cn the ccntrol panels with the diesel running and provide you with the results.

With cne of the diesel generators operating at 75% load, vibraticn masurenuits were taket at the skid-nounted coltrol relay panel md mgine gauge board, and also at the floor-mconted panel.

Since both diesel gelerators are idettical, this data is represcitative of both mits.

'Ihe peak amplitudes of vibraticn measured at a device nounting locaticns cn the castrol relay panel were.020 inches /seccnd at 30 Hz and.024 inches /second at 230 Hz.

'Ihe peak amplitude of vibraticn nuasured at a device momting locaticn cn the engine gauge board was.021 inches /secaid at 10 and 20 Hz.

For compariscn, the peak amplitude of vibratial nuasured at a typical device mounting locaticn cn the floor nounted panel was.023 inches /seccnd at 26 and 30 Hz.

Fe ccnsider these vibraticn levels to be relatively low.

Further, Colt Industries cxnsiders these vibraticn Ic:vels to be in a normal range and indicates that they should not degrade the equignmt to macceptable limits during the life of the plant based cn expericioe with similar devices in similar applicaticns.

In sumary, SCE&G believes that this additicnal informaticn coifirms our original ccnclusicn that field nodificaticns to relocate these panels are not warranted.

If you require additicnal informaticn, please let us kaow.

Very truly

urs, p
