ABWR SSAR, MFN 063-93, dated April 23,1993 Enclosed are thirty-four copies of selected sections of Chapter 1, bitroduction and General-Description of Plant, Chapter 2, Site Characteristics, Chapter 3, Design of Structures, Components, Equipment, and Systems, Chapter 5, Reactor Coolant System and Connected Systems, Chapter 6, Engineered Safety Features, Chapter 7, Instrumentation and ControlSystems, Chapter 9, Auxiliary Systems, Chapter 10, Steam and Power Conversion System, Chapter 11, Radioactive Waste Management, Chapter 14, Initial Test Program, Chapter 15, Accident Analysis, Chapter 17, Quality F
Assumnce, Chapter 20, Question and Response Guide, of the Standard Safety Analysis Report (SSAR) for the Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR).
1 The changes to the chapters noted above are a result of the first phase of the SSAR verification i
activity. Verification action to date has included all or a portion of the following: environmental qualification; reactor recirculation system; offgas; emergency core cooling systems; fuel and channel; rod control and information system; standby liquid control system; neutron monitoring system; Chapters 1,2,3 and 15; reactor protection system; fire protection; primary containment vessel, containment internal structures and BPV pedestal; quality control; in-service inspection; and non-destructive testing. Future changes / clarifications resulting from the SSAR verification activity will be included along with amendments closing out DFSER outstanding items..

The changes are primarily clarifications, without new information. The only new information pertains to the addition of, (1) scram initiation on high suppression pool temperature, and (2) scram initiation on recirculation runback.
Changes to the various sections of the SSAR are identified on the attached Page Change -
Instruction (s). The 11 x 17 inch drawings (non-proprietary and proprietary) will be sent transmitted under separate cover in the near future.
