Dear Mr. Davis:
Specification 3.3.3.6 Action (c) of reference (a) requires that with less than the minimum number of auxiliary building vent stack wide range noble gas monitors operable for more than 7 days, a Special Report shall be prepared and submitted to the Commission within 14 days pursuant to Specification 6.9.2 of
[
reference (a) that provides the actions taken, cause of the inoperability, and plans and schedule for restoring the channel (s) to operable status.
The enclosure provides a report regarding the inoperablility of the Unit 2 Auxiliary Building Vent Stack Wide Range Noble Gas Monitor, 2PR30J, initiated March 6, 1993 at 0750 hours0.00868 days
0.208 hours
0.00124 weeks
2.85375e-4 months
.
The inoperability of 2PR30J affects Unit I accident monitoring capabilities.
Reference (b) is the most recent report addressing accident monitoring i
instrumentation failures submitted in accordance with Specification 3.3.3.6 Action (c) of reference (a).
Please direct any questions regarding this submittal to Harry Pontious, Braidwood Station Licensing Supervisor, extension 2511.

Wide Range Noble Gas Monitor Inoperable for Greater than 7 Days Des &LipLinn I
On March 6, 1993 at 0750 hours0.00868 days
0.208 hours
0.00124 weeks
2.85375e-4 months
, the Unit 2 Auxiliary Building Vent Stack Wide Range Noble Gas Monitor, 2PR30J, was declared inoperable and removed from service for the performance of Braidwood Instrument Maintenance Surveillance Procedure (Bw1S) 3.3.6-211, Surveillance Calibration of Aux Building Wide Range Gas Radiation Monitor.
Bw1S 3.3.6-211 is performed to satisfy the f
18-month channel calibration requirement of-Technical Specification l
Surveillance Requirement (TSSR) 4.3.3.6, Table 4.3-7, Instrument 18.
Technical Specification 3.3.3.6 Limiting Condition for Operation Action (c) 7 was entered for Unit I since Technical Specification 3.3.3.6 requires one operable wide range noble gas monitor per Auxiliary Building Vent Stack.
{
I CapIn_nI_the.Ingpgrability The cause of the inoperability of 2PR30J was removing the monitor from service in order to perform Bw1S 3.3.6-211.
?
hC%i9n-T1LkCD During the performance of BwIS 3.3.6-211, the sample pump failed.
A Nuclear Work Request (NWR) was generated to replace the failed sample pump.
The calibration was halted until the sample pump was repJ aced.
Once the sample pump was replaced, those sections of the calibration already completed were reperformed in order to demonstrate the operability of the new s ample pump. The calibration was completed without further incident.
Alternate monitoring capability for the Unit 2 Auxiliary Building Vent Stack was la place during the time that 2PR30J was inoperable.
i l'jang_3JJ_ Schedule for Restorina the Channel to Operable Status 2PR30J was restored to operable status on March 18, 1993 at 0951 hours0.011 days
0.264 hours
0.00157 weeks
3.618555e-4 months
.
