PILGRIM NUCLEAR POWER STATION - REVIEW 0F RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER (GL) 88-01 (TAC NO. 69153)
By letters dated August 4,1988 and June 19, 1989 Boston Edison Company (BECo) submitted its response to Generic Letter 88-01, "NRC Positien on IGSCC in BWR Austenitic Stainless Steel Piping."
The NRC staff has completed its safety evaluation of these submittals.
The staff's Safety Evaluation (SE) is enclosed. The staff concludas that BECo's response to Generic Letter 88-01 is acceptable, with the following exceptions:
1.
BECo's position to exclude from the scope of applicability of GL 88-01, the welds in that portion of the RWCU system piping outboard of the isolation valves is not acceptable as it does not comply with the re-quirements of GL 88-01.
As a minimum you should prepare an inspection plan of the RWCU system piping outboard of the isolation valves on a sampling basis with justification for the selected sample size.
2.
BECo's position on sample expansion does not comply with the requirements of GL 88-01.
3.
BECo's position not to amend the Pilgrim Technical Specifications to include aa inservice Inspection Program (ISI) statement does not comply with the requirements of GL 88-01.
