Subject: NRC Region I Resident Inspection Report Nos. 50-317/90-05 and

50-318/90-05 (February 11, 1990 to March 24,1990)

This report transmits the findings of the routine resident inspection conducted

at the Calvert Cliff s Nuclear Power Plant. At the conclusion of the inspec-

tion, these findings were discussed with Mr. Denton of your staff.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspec-

tion Report which is enclosed with this letter.

Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative

records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspectors.

We

have noted your progress towards accomplishing short-term corrective actions

is sufficient to support return to operation of Calvert Cliffs Unit 1.

The

Executive Summary portion of this report summarizes our assessments of your

short-term actions as well as commitments that you have made during this

inspection period with regard to efforts in progress.

We will continue to

closely monitor your progress on these issues.

In addition, we have received your letter of March 9,1990 which responded to

a violation regarding safety-related cable separation.

While our review of

this issue is not complete, we have noted good progress in your correction of

weaknesses noted in the cable separation area.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
