Subject: Combined Inspection Report Nos. 50-334/90-03 and 50-412/90-03

This letter refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by

Mr. A. L. Della Greca of this office on January 22-26, 1990 at the Beaver Valley

Power Station Units 1 and 2'in Shippingport, Pennsylvania. Mr. Della Greca

discussed the findings of the inspection with Messrs. T. P. Noonan and W. S. Lacey

of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

The areas examined during this inspection are described in tSe NRC Region I

Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter and included a review of

your corrective actions for two previously identified issues. Within these

areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and

representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the

inspector.

Your corrective actions for one of the two unresolved items reviewed were

cceptable. Therefore, that issue is closed. However, your corrective actions

regarding the problems experienced with aluminum cables require further' manage-

ment attention anet will be reviewed during a future NRC inspection.

No violations were identified during the inspection and no reply to this letter

is required. Your cooperation with us in resolving the open issue in a timely

manner is appreciated.
