APPENDIX B TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS - NOBLE GAS RELEASES RE: BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT UNIT N05.1 AND 2 Your letter dated October 30, 1981 provided an assessment of noble gas releases from your facility with respect to the average annual release rate limit cited in Appendix B Technical Specifications. _You project that noble gas releases could reach 100% of-the existing. limit within 8-10 weeks; and 170% of the existing limit by June.1982; Neverth41ess, you have balculated and assert that the maximum air dose due to gama radiation in the sector with the most restrictive atmospheric dispersion factors for the period ending June 1982 will not exceed the appropriate numerical design objective of 10 CFR 50, Appendix I, as given in Section 2,5 of Appendix B Technical Specifications. You further project that no Appendix B Tebhnical Specification limits for other effluents will be exceeded.

As you know, the release rate limits in question were revised in 1979 to limit the annual gaseous release to the Appendix I numerical design objectives.

This was done to provide reasonable assurances of meeting design objectives during the interim period until the Augmented Offgas Systems (A0Gs) became operational. At the time the release rate limits were revised, the facility's airborne release history indicated that the revised limits could be met without an operable A0G. License conditions have subsequently been added to the facility operating licenses requiring installation of operable A0Gs by May 1983 for Unit No.1 and December 1983 for Unit No. 2.
