Dear Mr. Haynes:

In accordance with Environmental Technical Specification requirement 2.4.1.h.,

the following report regarding release of radioactive materials in liquid effluents is submitted.

Following an automatic reactor shutdown, which occurred at 2130 hours0.0247 days <br />0.592 hours <br />0.00352 weeks <br />8.10465e-4 months <br /> on August 21, 1981, the primary to secondary leak rate, in No. 23 steam generator increased from 0.1 gallons per day to 378 gallons per day.

Prior to isolation and purification of No. 23 steam generator secondary water by means of the blowdown system, 2.40 curies of f

radioactive material were released to the environment.

This release increased the cumulative 3rd Quarter liquid releases from Indian Point Unit No. 2 to 2.81 curies.

The unit was brought to cold shutdown and one tube in the steam generator was plugged.

The Unit was returned to service on September 16, with no detectable primary to secondary leakage.
