Dear Mr. Engelken:
On September 18, 1981, Mr. John Burdoin was notified by tele-phone of a deficiency reportable under 10 CFR 50.55(e). The report addressed recently discovered deficiencies in the design of the contain-ment spray system pipe supports located within containment.
The following deficiencies were identified:
1.
An incorrect thermal analysis was used for hanger Mads.
2.
This analysis was performed with one snubber modeled as a rigid member.
3.
The variable spring settings for the pipe sy, ports were improperly set based on a deadload analysis which assumed, incorrectly, that the pipes contained water.

4.
In designing a pipe anchor, the loads from only one side were used.

i Mr.-R.-:H.-Engelken October,19, 1981-New analyses were performed. addressing all of the above items.
. All supports were reviewed,-qualified, or~ redesigned:as' dictated by.the corrected support loads. As;a result, two anchors require structursi-modification and the spring supports'for those two anchors require minor l changes. These changes will be' completed prior to power: ascension.
We reported these deficiencies on.the assumption 1that an impact' on' safety existed. -Since the design has been modified, we deemed it unnecessary to make the extensive reanalysis required to_ determine if tie systems-would have remained operational had these deficiencies-remainedLundetected.
This is'the final report on the subject.
I N
Very.truly yours,
!s e
