3 Mr. George McCorkle-September 8, 1981 Pag, Two 3.

Proposed route, mileages, and approximate driving time f or each segment:

see Attachment 1.

4.

Alternate route:

see Attachment 2.

5.

Location of planned stopover, food and fuel stops: will utilize to the maximum extent possible the locations specified in the NRC route survey.

6.

Designation of heavily populated areas which will be traveled:

see Attachments 1 and 2.

D.

Physical Protection Arrangements Planned for Heavily Populated Areas 1.

For the areas designated as heavily populated, arrai.gements will be made with the local lat; enforcement agencies to provide the necessary escorts.

2.

The communications center will be established at the dispatch headquarters of the carrier who will provide the necessary communications facilities.

It is anticipated that Tri-State Motor Transit Company will be the carrier.

Sections of both the primary route and the alternate route have pre-viously been submitted by others and approved by the NRC.

It is strongly urged that you approve the primary route (Attachment 1). This route makes maximum use of the interstate highway system between heavily populated areas and primary rcads around those areas.

It is felt that this route affords better overall coordination of the shipment in that no prior arrangements have to be made.with LLEA's and precludes the possibilty of an unnecessary delay caused by a breakdown in the escort vehicle.

It is requested that, in addition to sending the approved route to the District, a copy also be sent to Mr. Phil Rosenthal, Combustion Engi-neering, Inc.,1000 Prospect Hill Road, Windsor, Connecticut 06095. Any communications regarding the route and shipment may be directed to Mr.

Rosenthal at (203)688-1911, Extension 3080[ 336C Sin e
