Rev. 3 Date: 8/5/81 1.

OBJECTIVE 1.1 To assure that the control rod drive will perform to system design requirements.

2.

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA 2.1 Test data is reviewed and accepted by the senior engineer.

3.

REFERENCES 3.1 Manuf acturer's manual, GEI-92807A.

4.

PREREQUISITES 4.1 The CRD System shall be operable as per 0.P. 302.

4.2 The Source Range Monitors shall be operable as per OP 401.

The two (2) SRM detectors located in the closest proximity, to the control rod to be tested, shall be selected for continuous recording.

The recorders shall be placed in fast speed for performance of this test.

4.3 The Intermediate Range Monitors shall be operable as per OP 402.

4.4 The Functional /Subcritical test OP 690C shall be completed on the cell to be friction tested.

4.5 The reactor mode switch shall be locked in the " Refuel" position.

4.6 The equipment used for this test shall be calibrated per OP 1262.

5.

INITIAL CONDITIONS 5.1 Obtain permission from the Shift Supervisor (55) for authoriza-tion to commence testing.

SS to initial Data Form indicating his permission is granted.

5.2 The SRM instrumentation shall be located in the core and connected in a non-coincidence configuration with a scram 5

setpoint of less than or equal to 5 x 10 cp,,

IC 414C Page.,

Rev. 3 Date:

8/5/81 5.3 The IRM instrumentation shall be located in the core and connected in a non-coincidence configuration with a scram set ^ point of less than or equal to 120/125 of full scale.

5.4 Establish communications with the instrument technician at the CR0 modules. '

6.

PRECAUTIONS 6.1 The assigned SR0 shall insure that the procedure is strictly adhered to.

This shall include direct observation of all control room activities which affect core reactivity and shall include direct observation of instrumentation response to reactivity additions.

6.2 During the conduct of this test, the possiblity of reactor criticality exists.

Operators are cautioned on this possibility and shall terminate the test by rod insertion should the source range nuclear instrumentation indicate an approach to criticality.

6.3 Ifthistesti.,doneinconjunctionwithSP-690C, Functional /Subcritical Check, then all initial rod withdrawal motion associated with the test shall be done in a notc'h The " Notch Override" control may be used for problem manner.

rods providing that at _no time is a rod moved more than one notch at a time'.

7.

PROCEDURE 7.1 Ensure the DP cell manifold valves (V1, V2, V3, V4 and V5) are closed.

7.2 Connect high pressure hoses to vent headers (ensure vent valve closed).

7.3 Connect insert header (1" pipe) to V3 on DP cell manifold.

7.4 Connect withdraw header (3/4" pipe) to V2 on DP cell manifold, and open the valves on vent header.

7.5 Vent insert line. Open V3 and V5. Give rod an insert signal until water flow is continuous then close V5.

IC 414C Page',

Rev. 3 Date:

8/5/81 7.6 Withdraw control rod to notch 48 and record the stall flow.

CRD Drive Pressure should be 260 1 3 psig.

7.7 Vent withdraw line.

Open V2 and V4.

Give the control rod a withdraw signal until water flow is continuous then close V4.

(Rod will move during this step).

CAUTION:

During the performance of friction testing, when control blades aN withdrawn the control operator will continually observe the source range nuclear instrumentation.

If at any time the source counts double and the associated period meter does not return to infinity in the expected manner, the control rod shall be immediately inserted to 00 and the test terminated.

Higher supervision shall be notified of this sondition.

No further testing or work involving _ core alterations or reactivity changes shall be conducted without management approval.

The control operator shall perform all steps of this NOTE:

procedure that require rod motion and direct all other steps from the control room.

All required data is recorded on the " Fuel Cell Loading Data Sheet".

7.8 Vent equalizer line.

Close V2, open V1 and V4 (this will vent line), close V4 then V1, open V2 and DP cell is ready for operation.

Set scope to storage set time reset sweep and trigger sweep 5 7.9 sec/div, (single sweep). When trace approximately 2 MM on scale, tell operator to start step 7.10.

7.10 Insert control rod with the emergency in switch.

7.11 At 00 take a storage scope picture.

7.11.1 Remove camera shield (Red plastic tag) and turn on grid illuminator.

7.11.2 Take a picture and verify picture is readable.

7.11.3 Erase storage scope screen and reset display levers to store.

(

IC 414C Page,

Rev. 3 Dato: 8/5/81 7.12 Withdraw control blade to notch 24.

7.13 Set scope time base to.5 sec./div.

7.14 When trace is approximately 2mm on CRT have operator notch rod out to notch 26.

7.15 Take storage scope picture as outlined in step 11.

CR0 7.16 Insert the control blade to notch 00 record stall flow.

f pressure should be 26013 psiq.

7.17 Complete steps 7.2 through 7.16 for the remaining CRD units to be tested.

8.

RESTORATION Check vent valves shut and replare plugs on vent connections.

8.1 8.2 Check charging valve open (113).

Forward pictures and data form to Engineering Dept. for review 8.3 and evaluation.
