SUBJECT:

YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIr' COMPANY CO REPORT NO. 29/67-1 Yankee fully expects to experience more steam generator leaks.

They have not as yet formulated any long range

.}]

plans other than to wait and see.

as to the possible cause was that during fabrication the tubes may have been rolled beyond the top edge of the tube sheet, thus causing a thinning of the tube and introducing

.. 3/

undesirable stresses at that point - the area of the leake.

John Randazza told me that when they first examined the tubes from the secondary side, they thought that they saw evidence of just that, but it.later proved to be an optical illusion caused by a film of water.

He also said, for I'

what it is worth, that there was no crud and only a small

el amount of scale present on the secondary side.

The principal results of the inspection have been discussed with Paul Norian, DRL.
