Dear Mr. Clark:

The Commission's letter dated July 20, 1981, concerning Unresolved Safety Issue A-44, Station Blackout, requested Omaha Public Power Dis-trict to complete a questionnaire on the reliability of onsite standby diesel generattis within 120 days of receipt of the subject letter. The District hereby requests an extension of the submittal date to December 31, 1981, based on the fol awing reasons:

1)

Complet;ng the diesel generator questionnaire wi'l require an extensive effort of research, covering five years of oper-ations and maintenance records.

2)

The period before and during the forthcoming (September 15, 1981) refueling cutage (6-8 weeks) will require substantia ~-

manpower support, chus limiting the manpower available to complete the questionnaire. As addressed in the Commission's July 20, 1981 letter, priority tasks such as the refueling outage can permit extension of the submittal date.

Based on the considerable manhours required to complete the question-naire and the time restrictions imposed by the forthcoming refueling outage, the District believes the extended submittal date is justified.

Sincerely, I.
