BLRD-50-438/82 SECOND INTERIM REPORT The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE Inspector R. V. Crlenjak on May 11, 1982 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e) as NCR 1819. This was followed by our first interim report dated June 8,1982.

Enclosed is our second interim report. We expect to submit our next report by February 16, 1983 We consider 10 CFR Part 21 applicable to this deficiency.

SECOND INTERIM REPORT i

Description of Deficiency The following butterfly valves, manufactured by BIF, a unit of General Signal Corporation, West Warwicke, Rhode Island, which are used in the Essential Air System were determined to be leaking in excess of an acceptable rate.

damage, i.e., the seats were cut and portions were missing. The cause of the damage was not apparent.

Interim Progress TVA has not yet received BIF's response indicating their recommended disposition or a list of valves that could be subject to the cited deficiency. TVA will provide another report upon receipt of BIF's response.
