NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-260/89-42
This letter forwards a report on the results of a special on-site inspection
oftheBrownsFerryNuclearPlantUnit2(BFNP-2)CivilCalculationReview
Program and Seismic Design Program conducted at the BFNP-2 site in Decatur.
Alabama on November 6-10, 1989 followed by several conference calls concluding
with one on January 24, 1990. A total of 12 design areas (3 under the civil
calculation review program and 9 under the seismic design program) were reviewed
during this inspection. As a result, all the open items identified during pre-
vious inspections were closed except two sub-items under Item CSG-9. These two
sub-items are:
(1) complete the final confirmatory evaluation for the two lower
steel platforms inside drywell when the generation of new pipe support loads
from tw IEB 79-14 program is complete, and (2) complete the evaluation of HVAC
ductwork (including supports) inside the chimney. We request that these two
issues be resolved expeditiously and the results of resolution be provided for
staff review prior to the restart of BFNP-2.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2
L

will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
