Generic letter (GL).88-14, dated August 8,1988, requested that Georgia Power Comparty'(GPC) review NUREG-1275, Volume 2, entitled, " Operating Experience-Fee &ack Report-Air System Problems," and perform a: design and. operational

verification of the instriment air system at Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2.
In addition to providing a dismssion of your program for maintaining proper. instrument air quality, GL 88-14 requested that you-speci-fically:
1; Verify by test that-actual instrument air quality is consistent with the 'nanufacturer recomandations for individual conponents-served by -
-theiinstrument-air system; 2.-
Verify that maintenance practices, energenqy procedures, and training are adequate to ensure that safety-related equipment will function.
as intended on loss of instrument air; and

Verify that the design of the instrunant air system, includir.g air or other pneumatic accumulators, is in accordance with its' intended l'
function; and verify, by test, that air-operated safety-related-l'
. components will perform as expected for-all design-basis events, including a loss of the normal instrument air system.

Specifically, the response of February 17, 1989, states that "the reviews and/or investigations indicate that.

GPC should maintain files regarding this matter for future audit by the NRC staff.
