. quake (SSE)) for'the Perry Nuclear Power Planthad comitted to:- (i) Unit No.1.
.Your previoust letter dated July-21, 1988 finalizing criteria and
.comencing preparatory work by the end of the first refueling. outage;
-(2) completing preparatory work, walkdowns and specific system, component W
and_ structure evaluations by the end of the second refueling outage; and (3)-implementing modifications including final documentation by the end L
of the third refueling outage. We approved your July 21, 1988 proposed.

Intyour' February 2,1990 letter you indicated your intent-to conduct the Seismic Margins Evaluation Program for the Perry Nuclear-Power Plant
'within the context of resolving severe accident issues under the Individual Plant' Examination for External Events (IPEEE) Program. We concur with this approach. You further stated that your previous schedule assumed final NRC' staff guidance would become available in 1989. Since that guidance was not forthcoming, it is your intent to await issuance of the IPEEE Generic Letter which would contain additional guidance on seismic margin methodology a
and follow those options available to you under the IPEEE program for L
conducting seismic margins studies. The staff has consulted with the ACRS (Advisory Comittee for Reactor Safeguards) regarding your proposed schedule change.' The ACRS has no objections to that change.
