QUESTION 3(a).
Will the Commission = consider whether to revise'its regulations based upon BEIR V?
1
- 3(b).
How would such a revision [in the regulations based'upon BEIRV]beaccomplished?
3(c).
How will the agency take into account the conclusion of the BEIR-V study?
ANSWER.
The Commission is now considering revisions to its radiation protection
. standards in 10 CFR Part 20 for issuance as a final rule. While these revisions were not based on BEIR V per se, a significant amount of the
- scientific information on the revised radiation risk estimates contained in the BEIR V' report was available to the NRC for several years and was considered in-
- developing the proposed 10 CFR Part 20 revisions. Although the NRC believes that the' issuance'of the BEIR V report should not-necessitate any further f
revisions, we will consider the conclusions of BEIR V in reviewing the draft final rule.
In the years ahead, the Commission will continue to consider if
.further rulemaking actions are warranted as a consensus of national'and international views emerges on the implications of the revised risk estimates for radiation protection based on BEIR V and any future pertinent assessments and recommendations.
