Dear Mr. Haynes:
This letter is being sent to you in accordance with th2 require-ments set forth in Paragraph 3.13.A.2 of the Indian Point Unit No. 2 Technical Specifications.
On July 31, 1981, transformer no. llEC4 was taken out of service for repair.
The loss of this transformer deactivated Bus Section No. 4 which feeds motor-driven fire pump no. 12.
On August 1, 1981 temporary service was restored to the fire pump.
With the temporary service, the pump did not have the capability of auto-matic start.
Transfonner !!o. IlEC4 was put back into secvice on August 19, 1981 and motor-driven fire pump no. 12 restored to its normal operating condition.
Even though the fire pump would not start. automatically with the temporary power feed, it was not considered necessary to provide any additional fire protection.
This evaluation was based on the following considerations:
n)
The second motor-driven fire pump was fully operational.
b)
The diesel-driven fire pump, which is a backup for both motor-driven pumps, was fully operational.

If pump no. 12 had to be started manually, the motor control center was within a short distance of the control room.
d)
Operators were notified that pump no. 12 was to be started manually.
