Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

Subject:

SUPPLY SYSTEM NUCLEAR PROJECTS 3 AND 5 OPERATING LICENSE APPLICATION

Reference:

Letter, D. L. Renberger to D. G. Eisenhut,

Subject:

WPPSS Nuclear Projects 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Operating License Application Schedules, dated August 8, 1980 The joint operating license (0L) application for the Supplj System Nuclear Projects 3 and 5 has been scheduled for submittal to the staff in April, 1982. This date is consistent with the target construction completion date for Unit 3 and represents an acce?aration of the schedule provided in the referenced letter.

The Supply System and the Architect Engineer / Construction Manager (AE/CM) have recently completed an extensive review of the construction schedule.

A target schedule has been developed which would support construction completion and fuel load as early as August,1985. The milestones within this target schedule have been accelerated by providing substantial financial incentives to the AE/CM and to construction contractors whose work is on the critical path for meeting the accelerated completion dates.

The April,1982 submittal date for the OL application provides for a two month acceptance review and 38 months after docketing prior to the accelerated fuel load date.

The current construction slowdown on Unit 5 has not,at this time, affected the scheduled completion dates for that unit. This effect will, of course, be reassessed following resumption of full construction activities.

The reducticn of activities at Unit 5 has assisted the acceleration of activities on Unit 3 and ft rther increases the probability for achieve-ment of the earlier schedule. g/
