Dear Mr. Jones:
RE: OVERRIDE OF CONTAINMENT PURGE ISOLATION AND OTHER ESF ACTUATION SIGNALS AT BRUNSWICK STEAM E'.3CIRIC PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 We have completed our long-term review of the electrical, instrumentation, and control systems design aspects of the Containment Ventilation Isolation (CVI) system and other related Engineered Safety Feature (ESF) system functions for the Drunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP), Units 1 and 2.
Our Safety Evaluation Report (SER) for this aspect of the containment purging and venting issue is enclosed hereto. Our review was based on your past sub-mittals as referenced in the SER.
We have concluded that BSEP Units 1 and 2 are in conformance with five of the six criteria used for this review. To achieve full confomance, we request that you provide us within 120 days of this letter your plan for providing system-level automatic annunciation of the overridden status of a safety system as discussed in the SER. If, in the alternative, you decide to justify the a#quacy of the existing status lights, your response should include, as a minimum, a comparison of the status lights to an annunciator in terms of:
(1) shift turnover procedures and (2) power supply reliability.
The remainder of our containment purging and venting long-term review for BSEP Units 1 and 2 is continuing as described in our letter to you of February 3,1981.
Sincerely, ORIGINAL SIGIED BY ffd'
