dated l

March 8,1978.

l l

Following our notification by the FBI that an individual in the Burlington, Vermont area had expressed various concerns regarding the fabrication practices at the Hayward-Tyler Pump Company, also i

in Burlington, an attempt was made to contact the individual via mailgram and registered letter.

Although we received confirmation of the receipt of our registered letter, we have not had direct contact with the alleger himself.

Contact with the FBI Agent, who

(

interviewed the alleger in Burlington, indicated concerns in the areas I

of QA/QC inspection, improper preparation of materials, lack of adequate radiography and the possible falsification of appropriate reqords. The FBI is required to pursue this matter only if federal funds are involved, under a government contract or purchase order,

(

l l

which at present does not appear to be the case.

l f

We feel that this matter should be pursued further.

Since it appears s

l to fall within the purview of the Vendor Inspectio~n Program, it is our recommendation that Region IV be requested to consider a special inspection of the Hayward-Tyler Pump Company.
