UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 January 16, 2020 Mr. Prakash Narayanan Chief Technical Officer TN Americas LLC 7135 Minstrel Way Suite 300 Columbia, MD 21045

SUBJECT:

APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF THE STANDARDIZED ADVANCED NUHOMS HORIZONTAL MODULAR STORAGE SYSTEM FOR IRRADIATED NUCLEAR FUEL CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE NO. 1029 - ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW (EPID NO. L-2019-RNW-0014)

Dear Mr. Narayanan:

By letter dated May 22, 2019, and supplemented November 4, 2019, TN Americas LLC (TN) submitted an application for renewal of Certificate of Compliance (CoC) No. 1029 for the Standardized Advanced NUHOMS Horizontal Modular Storage System for Irradiated Nuclear Fuel. The current certificate expires on February 5, 2023. The submittal of the renewal application was timely per the requirements of 10 CFR 72.240(b). In the application, TN requested to renew the certificate for an additional 40 years. U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff performed an acceptance review of your application to determine if the application contains sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the staff to conduct the detailed technical review.

This letter acknowledges acceptance of your application. The application appears to contain the information needed for the NRC staff to conduct a detailed technical review. We have established a schedule for the review. The schedule allows for the staff to complete its technical review and issue a request for additional information (RAI) in April 2020. If TN provides a sufficient response to the RAI in July 2020, and a second RAI is not needed, the CoC would be submitted to Rulemaking in February 2021. Rulemaking is estimated to take 6 months, and if there are no significant adverse comments received during the comment period, the CoC will become effective in August 2021. In general, no additional changes to the application should be submitted except for changes resulting from your response to a RAI.

P. Narayanan 2 If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at 301-415-6293 or at Christopher.Markley@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
