Narrative

Report for LER 50-366/1981-032' On April 4,1981, during a reactor scram recovery, the HPCI Auxiliary

'HPCI had run 011 Pump tripped when initiated for the second time.

.successfully on an auto initiation,~ but the auxiliary oil pump tripped on a following manual initiation.

Personnel-immediately reset the breaker and sucessfully started the pump.- This is a-repetitive event

'7 as last reported on Reportable Occurrence 50-366/1980-016.

Publ ic - heal th -

and safety was not affected by this incident.

An investigation into the cause of the breaker trip-revealed that the coil of a time dalay relay had failed.

This relay is used to series resistance -in the motor armature.

A design change has been initiated to help reduce the possibility of the event from re-occurring.

[

This event 'is not applicable to Unit I due to the utilization of different.

components for the HPCI Auxiliary Oil Pump.
