RECEIPT OF RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 89-16, INSTALLATION OF HARDENED WETWELL YENT (TAC NO 74871)
RE:
HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION We have received your letter dated October 30, 1989, in response to the reporting requirements of Generic letter 89-16. The staff has reviewed your response and considers your intention to install a hardened wetwell vent at Hope Creek Generating Station under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.59 to be acceptable. Because we view your stated intentions to be a firm commitment to install the requisite modifications, we will not proceed with the backfit analyses for your f acility.
If our understanding is not consistent with your intentions, please provide a detailed explanation of the commitments made in your response supporting the deviations from our understanding within 30 days of the date of this letter.
TheuseoftheresultsoftheIndividualPlantExaminations(IPE)todevelop supplemented criteria for the vent modification design is acceptable to us, provided that it does not in any way affect the vent modification completion schedule or your commitment to make the requisite modifications under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.59.
Your schedule for completion of the requisite vent modifications by January 1993 is acceptable. Any changes to the completion schedule must be discussed with the staff prior to their implementation, and the final schedules must not extend beyond January 1993.
