Docket Nos. 50-277 50-278 Mr. Darrel G.

Eisenhut, Director Division of Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

Your letter of February 26, 1981, (Generic Letter 81-04) forwarded the final NUREG 0313, Rev.

1,

" Technical Report on Material Selection and Processing Guidelines for BWR Coolant Pressure Boundary Piping", which provides the NRC staff's acceptable methods for reducing intergranular stress corrosion cracking.

Your letter requested that we review our pressure boundary piping and safe ends to determine if they meet the guidelines of NUREG 0313, Rev.

1, and identify any materials thst do not meet these guidelines.

Augmented inservice inspection requirements are to be incorporated into our Technical Specifications for material that does not meet the NUREG guidelines.

Our review of the items requested in your letter with respect to Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Units 2 and 3 continues at this time.

We are evaluating weld stresses to determine the extent of our augmented inservice inspection program for pressure bounuary pipi.g and safe ends.

The current Unit 3 refueling outage at Peach Bottom involves several modifications that directly affect our response to NUREG 0313, Rev.

1.

Planned modifications include core spray, reactor water cleanup and residual heat removal head spray pipe material changeu and removal of the recirculation system bypass line.

However, due to outage sche'ule changes the status of some of these modifications is uncertain.
