Subject: Meeting 50-289/81-16
This refers to the meeting held at our request at Three Mile Island Nuclear
Generating Station, Unit 1, Middletown, Pennsylvania on June 11, 1981, to
discuss the findings of the NRC Region I Systematic Assessment of Licensee
-
Performance (SALP) program evaluation board relating to your performance in
conducting activities authorized by NRC License No. OPR-50.
The meeting was attended by Mr. P. Clark, GPUNG, yourself and members of your
staff and myself and members of the Region I staff.
Subjects discussed included
the results of a review board composed of myself and Region I Division Directors.
Although the SALP evaluation coard did not assess your performance in the area
of emergency preparedness, we note that on June 2,1981 (outside of the assess-
ment period), you conducted successfully an emergency preparedness drill in
-
conjunction with federal, state and local agencies, in accordance with guidanca
contained in NUREG-0654.
It is our view that this meeting was beneficial and improved mutual understanding
of your program and our inspection efforts.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2,
Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosures
will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
No reply to this letter is required; however, should you have any questions
concerning this matter, we will be pleased to discuss them with you.
