7590-01 UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY CCMMISSION DOCKET NO. 50-309 MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY NOTICE OF ISSUANCE OF AMENDMENT TO FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE 8
The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (the Commission)*has issued Amedment No. 57 to Facility Operating License No. DPR-36, issued to Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company, which revised Technical Specifications for operation of the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Station (the facility) located in Lincoln County, Maine. The amendment was effective on May 22, 1981.

The amendment modifies Technical Specification 3.17.B 7.b to allow oper-ation of the reactor b'uilding purge system to by-pass the charcoal absorbers during the cycle 6 refueling operation only under the following conditions:
(1) during the time the Low Dressure Safety Injection (LPSI) System check valves are being installed or completion of refueling operations, whichever is earlier; and (2) during the charcoal absorber by-pass mode the contain-ment purge valves will be tripoablemanually and automatically.
The application for the amendment complies with the standards and requirements of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended (the Act), and the Commission's rules and regulations. The Commission has made appropriate finding as required by the Act and the Commission's rules and regulations in 10 CFR Chapter I, which are set forth in the license amendment. Prior public notice of this amendment was not required since the amendment does not involve a significant hazards consideration.

The Commission has determined that the issuance of this amendment will not result in any significant environmental impact and that pursuant to 10 CFR 551.5(d)(4) an environmental impact statement, or negative declaration and environmental impact appraisal need not be prepared in connection with isstance of this amendment.
