Narrative

Report for LER 50-366/1981-047.

On May 20, 1981, while the plant was in steady' state operation at 2424 MWt, Drywell and Torus Temperature Recorder was found to be inoperative.

Tech Specs Section 3.3.6.4.a. requires both channels to be operable.

Redundant Drywell and Torus Temperature Recorder. was operable.

Plant operation was placed in a 30 day LC0 as a result of this event.

The health and safety of the public was not affected as a result of this event.

This is a repetitive event as last reported on Reportable Oc:urrence 50-366/1980-063.

The cause of this event has been attributed to a dirty slidewire on the recorder thus causing the recorder to stamp in the same position on all recorder points being monitored.

The recorder slidewire was cleaned with electrical contact lubricant cleaner, then exercised and checked for correct operation and returned to service.

These type recorders are generic to Unit I and Unit II and an investigation reveals that this is the first incident of a dirty slidewire and no inherent problems exist.
