Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
By reference (1), you requested Florida Power Corporation to submit de-tailed information on meeting the requirements of Sections III.G, III.J, and III.0 of Appendix R to 10 CFR 50.
By reference (2), FPC petitioned the Commission for an. exemption from retrofitting the existing Reactor Coolant Pump 011 Collection System on the basis that the existing oil collection system meets the objective of Section Ill.0, and was previ-ously approved by the NRC and implemented by FPC.
Furthermore, FPC petitioned the Commission that the impl ementa tion schedule associated with this requi renient be deferred inde fini tely persuant to 10 CFR S0.48(c)(6) during the resolution of that petitioned exemption.

Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut June 12,1981 Page Two Since May 11, 1981, several telephone conversations were held between NRC and FPC staff members regarding the requested exemption.
The NRC staff has stated that the information previously submitted for the Fire Protection Safety Evaluation Report is either not available or insuffi-cient in light of Appendix R requirements and has requested additional information.
Furthermore, Mr. Tom Wambach of your staff has assured us that.the_ implementation schedule associated with Section III.0 will be
" tolled" indefinitely during the resolution of this exemption following FPC's commitment to providc additional information to complete the re-view.
Accordingly, FPC hereby commits to provide additional infonnation related to the existing RCP Oil Collection System.
Information will be supplied in accordance with the following schedule:

- 1. -Description of Existing RCP Oil June 15,1981 Collection System with drawings.
2.
Seismic Qualification and Adequacy June 30,1981 of Existing Oil Collection Tank Capaci ty.
3.
Potential Lube Oil Leakage Sites.

November 1,1981 (Complete) 4.
Is there any unreviewed safety August 1,1981 (Partial) r question due to a fire in the November 1,1981 (Complete) containment and inpact on safe shutdown capability.
If visual inspection of existing RCP Oil Collection and Lube Oil Systems is required, a partial response for items 3 and 4 will be provided by Auqust 1,'1981, and a complete response will be submitted by November 1, 1981.
