Dear Mr. Keppler:
In accordance with Reference (1), this report is notification of performance of a system that requires remedial action or corrective measures to prevent operation in a manner less conservative than assumed in Technical Specification bases.
l The bases for Reference (2) states that the Emergency Service Water l
Supply System is capable of supplying 900 gpm flow rate against a 50 psig reactor pressure.
The surveillance specification to demon-l strate this design criteria requires verifying that the combined pump l
output develops 900 gym at a minimum test pressure of 90 psig.
On June 1, 1981, with the plant in Operating Condition 4, the first I
integrated system test since the system was installed was conducted.
The pumps were capable of producing 870 gpm at 90 psig.
The required 900 gpm flow rate was achieved at a pressure of 82 psig.
The test i
pressure is measured at the pressure indicator located downstream of the Alternate Core Spray automatic isolation valves.
l Additional testing was conducted on June 2, 1981.
Individual pump l
Performance results indicaue that the required flow rate is attainable with minor system modifications.
Modifications and retesting will be l
accomplished prior to plant startup.
