Dear Mr. Tauber:

Subject:

Equipment Environmental Qualification Program By letter dated May 4,1981 you described your program for completing environmental qualification of safety - related equipment for Fermi 2 and stated that information required by our February 21, 1980 letter would be submitted by July 31, 1981.

This submittal date impacts the scheduled date for issuance of the Safety Evaluation Report (June 30,1981) and the Supplement to the Safety Evaluation Report (August 31,1981). Normally four months is needed for an evaluation after receipt of your submittal. The minimum time needed for our evaluation is six weeks to evaluate it, one week for an audit of records in your central file for environmental qualification, and one week to prepare our evaluation.

We will keep this item open in the Safety Evaluation Report but must close it in the Supplement to our Safety Evaluation Report since this document must be I

issued before the preparation for the public hearing can begin. Your current submittal date would necessitate a slip of at least one month and possibly I

three months in the issuance of our Supplement to the Safety Evaluation Report.

d We therefore request that you consider expediting your submittal to June 30, 1981 to minimize the impact on issuance of the Supplement to the SER.

Sincerely,

!kF{_ cc.m2 Robert L. Tedesco, Assistant Director l
