Management Appraisal Inspection - Vemont Yankee The purpose of this

  • letter is to confirm plans by the NRC Perfomance Appraisal Branch (PAB) to conduct a Management Appraisal Inspection at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant, the Vemont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation West Brattleboro corporate offices and at the Yankee Atomic Nuclear Service Division corporate offices.

The inspection is scheduled for the weeks of April 6, 13, and 27, 1981.

It is anticipated that the inspection team will spend the first week, April 6,1981, at the plant site, the second week, April 13, 1981, at the corporate offices, and the third week,' April 27, 1981, at either location as rLquired to complete the inspection. A meeting to present the Management Appraisal findings is scheduled for May 1, 1981.

Enclosure A to this letter describes the general inspection plan that will be used during the Performance Appraisal and a listing of Functional Areas tha will be inspected. The Performance Appraisal will be conducted by a team of six senior NRC inspectors, headed by Mr. Blaine Murray as Team Leader.

Performance Appraisal Team members are identified in Enclosure B.

A request for access authorization to the plant site, along with required identification i

information, will be sent to you by separate correspondence.

I Certain information to support the Performance Appraisal inspection has been received from your staff. Your essistance in providing this information is appreciatad.

I trust that the pic.-inspection meeting held between Mr. Murray and members of your staff or. March 11, 1981 was beneficial to you in explain-l ing the Performance Appraisal inspection format. An Interview List, which l

provides a schedule for interviews with certain members of your staff during l

the inspection, will be forwarded to you by the PAB prior to April 6, 1981.

The PAB inspections are an integral part of the NRC's Revised Inspection Program as described in NUREG 0397 and approved by tha Commission in June l

1977. As such, the Performance Appraisal inspection will not significantly l

increase the NRC's inspection effort of your activities under License No. DPR-28.
