Dear Mr. Denton:
South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE6G) acting for itself and as agent.for the South Carolina Public Service Authority is pursuing the use of results abtained from the Marshall Steam Station Test and other industry tests as fulfillment of the part of the requirements of TMI item II.D.1 concerning qualification of PORV Block Valves. The V. C. Summer PORV Block Valves have been modified by Westinghouse to close against a differential pressure up to 2750 psi. The modifications made on the V. C. Summer Block valves are com-parable to modifications made on the block valve tested successfully at the Marshall Steam Station. As a member of the EPRI, SCE&G is incl 2ded in EPRI's ongoing involvement with the NRC on valve testing.
i In the event that the results from the Marshall Tests or similar tests are unsatisfa tory to the NRC staf f or that an EPRI program is not developed for Block Valve Testing, SCE&G will test these valves as specified in NUREC-0737, item II.D.1 or resolve the qualificatic, issue in a anner that is mutually J
acceptable.
