Dear Mr. Bauer:
This letter confims the authorization issued orally by the NRC staff on January 16,1981 (telephone call from D. Verrelli, ORB #4 to C. Cowgill, NRC Resident Inspector and W. T. Ullrich, Station Superintendent) for a temporary change to the Technical Specifications for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Unit No. 2.
The temporary change involves an increase in the trip level setting for main steam line tunnel exhaust duct high temp-erature from 200 F to 250 F for approximately 5 minutes to minimize the possibility of an inadvertent transient on the unit during the period of time that the tunnel ventilation system was being returned to its nomal operating conditions. During the period of the temporary change, control room indications of the duct temperatures were to be observed by the operators so that in the event of rapid increases, which would be indi-cative of a steam line break, the operator could take prompt action to isolate the main steam line isolation valves.
The temporary change was authorized in response to your request by telecopied letter from M. J.
Cooney to R. W. Reid, NRC dated January 16, 1981.
An official amendment and appropriate Federal Register Notice will be for-warded in the near future.
Sincerely, ma
