Dear Mr. Grier:
BIOLOGICAL SHIELD 10CFR50.55(e), POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCY NO. 1 UNIT HOPE CREEE GENERATING STATION On July 1, 1980, a verbal report concerning a potential significant deficiency was reported to Region 1, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. McGaughy.
It was reported that documentation per-taining to quality verification for the lower subassembly of the biological shield supplied by pX Engineering was found lacking inspection and NDE of several welds.
Supplemental information was submitted in writing to Region 1, Office of Inspection and Enforcement on August 7, 1980 and September 15, 1980.
The following is a third interim report and it is to con-vey the information that the investigation has not yet been completed.
It is expected that the assessment of reportability in accordance with requirements of 10CFR50.55(e) will be completed by December 19, 1980.
PSE&G will inform the NRC of the results at that time.
