Dear Mr. Denton:
MULTIPLE STRUCTURE ARS CONCERN NORTH ANNA UNIT 1 This letter is intended to supersede the schedule provided in our letter. Serial No. 906 dated November 7, 1980.
In accoraance with your verbal request at the meeting held between Stone & Webster, Virginia Electric and Powar Company and members of your staff, at Bethesda, Maryland on November 7,1980, we are proceed-ing with design and installation of pipe support modifications as required by Multi Structure ARS Phase II reanalysis. A considerable amount of this work will be completed prior to resumption of power operation following the current refuel-ing outage for North Anna Unit 1.
As a result of this new direction, the schedule given in our letter dated November 7,1980 (Serial NJ. 906) is not being followed.
This is because schedule commitments made in that le*.ter did not include design and implementation of modifications.
Design of modification normally entails stress reanalysis of piping, redesign of supports, check for interferences, work in' areas of 1 'mited accessibility, etc.
In order to meet your requested schedule and to expedite the work, we are instal-ling modifications based on preliminary Phase II analysis results which are usually very conservative. All documentation will be finalized for the as modified condi-tion.
