Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

NRC IE Bulletin 80-21 required action by South Carolina Electric and Gas within 60 days.

In response to this requirement, a review of suppliers of active valves for the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station has been made.

Preliminary findings indicate'that no active valve has been supplied with a valve yoke cast from Malcolm Foundry, Inc. However, Westinghouse is continuing a generic evaluation of this problem and will not complete the study _until mid-February, 1981. Although it is not expected that the Westinghouse study will affect the Virgil C. Summer evaluation, we will review it and inform you of the results.
