Confirmation of Action This refers to the discussions held on December 23, 1980, between B. J. Furr of Carolina Power and Light Company and R. C. Lewis of this office concerning the Health Physics Appraisal inspection conducted on December 8-19,1980, at the Brunswick Nuclear Station.

With regard to matters discussed, it is our understanding that you have undertaken or will undertake the following actions:

1.

Establish a program for quantitatively determining the effectiveness of respirator fit and improve procedures for evaluating the uptake of radio-activity.

2.

Reevaluate and upgrade, as necessary, your contamination surveillance program in light of the identification of contamination in clean areas.

3.

Provide measures t.

pump seawater from the condenser pit to the intake canal prior to intermixing with radioactive contamination.

Modify the liquid radwaste system to minimize the potential for flooding on the 03 elevation of the radwaste building.

4.

Improve routine surveillance of operating parameters (such as differential pressure, flowrate and humidity) for the standby gas filter systems, control building emergency filter system, and the turbine building filter systems.
