Interim Report - Potential 50. 55 (e) Loose Sway Strut Bushings
Dear Mr Seidle:
This letter is written to update the status of loose sway strut bushings as reported in my letters of June 27 and August 29, 1980.
Since my August 29, 1980, letter no additional ITT Grinnell or Bergen Patterson loose sway strut bushings have been found.
Becnase of the small number of struts involved, the vendors have been reluctant to come to the field.
Bergen Patterson has expressed a will-ingness to examine the struts in their shop and make any necessary evaluations.
Daniel has been instructed to return the Bergen Patterson struts.
After this has been accomplished, Bechtel will review the Bergen Petterson analysis of the problem and will make a determination of the safety significance.
ITT Grinnell has evaluated their deficiency and has proposed a solution.
This proposed solution is being transmitted to Bechtel as part of a Non-conformance Report for their evaluation.
We expect to be able to make a final report by March 1, 1981; however, if all evaluations are not complete by this date we will submit a further report to update the status of our investigations.
