[

Operator Licensing and Training j

Dear Mr. Denton:

i:-

his is to confirm the dates for NRC written. exams for the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station as discussed with Mr. Kevin Mahan. Our license candidates will be given written exams in two groups.

Group I exams will be August 3 and 4, 1981, and Group II exams will be September 9 and 10, 1981.

Our position on simulater training prior to the written exame is defined in FSAR 13.2.1.4.

All of our candidates meet the two year requirement specified therein.

We intend to meet the annual requirements of the requalification program after ve cold license.

There have been many questions raised concerning simulator exams as part of licensing requirements. All of our cold license simulator training has been

. conducted on the Zion simulator. Westinghouse has no available time to support us in simulator exams. To receive additional training on another simult. tor for the purpose of simulator exams may result in degradation of the level of training due to dissimularities between Summer Station, Zion, and a third facility. Also, with our licensing and training schedules, this training is prohibitive without causing undue delays in our projected fuel load schedule.

We realize the NRC is making every effort to begin adding simulator performance to the Operator Licensing exam in October 1981.

Since we do not have a site specific simulator and our training program was not structured to meet this commitment, we request a waiver of this portion of the exci.ination for our

.ecold license candidates.

/

Your consideration and positive approval of this request would be appreciated.

l Very truly yours, T.C. Nichols, Jr.
