Dear Mr. Jones:
N By letter dated May 20, 1981 you provided us with justification for terminating the " Surveillance Program to Ensure Plant Modifications Eliminated In-Core Vibrations" for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP) Unit No.1.
You further advised us that you intended to terrinate that program on.' July 1,1981.
We agree with your assessment that the problems of high levels of Local Power
- Range Meter (LPRM) vibration and fuel channel wear have been resolved.
Further sunport of this conclusion is provided in a letter from R. E. Engel (GE) to R. Baer (NRC) of October 15, 1977 which documents significant reductions in channel box wear following the design modifications.
For these reasons, we concur with your plan to terminate the subject program.
