Dear Mr. Dunn:

This acknowledges receipt of your letter of February 2,1981, by which you transmitted security plan modifications intended to incorporate the results of the NRC-sponsored vital area analysis of Beaver Valley, Unit 1, conducted by Los Alamos National Laboratory.

We note that the majority of areas ioentified as " vital" are being pro-tected as such in accordance with comitments contained in your approved security plan. We are deferring action in regard to the other vital areas for which you have proposed additional security measures. The NRC staff is presently developing policy on the most effective way to incorporate added protective measures in security plans in response to the Los Alamos National Laboratory study. After the NRC staff has finalized its position, you will be informed concerning any possible need to review your existing security plan to assure that vital areas and equipment identified in the analysis are protected in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 73.55.

Sincerely, e-
