Attachment To LER 81-20/03L Beaver Valley Power Station Duquesne Light Company Docket No. 50-334 At 1440 hours0.0167 days
0.4 hours
0.00238 weeks
5.4792e-4 months
, an operator observed unusual readings at the Meteorological Tower multipoint recorder located in the control room.

The discharge which was in progress was immediately terminated. An investigation into the cause for this incident revealed that a training session for new operators was being held in the Meteorological Tower shelter at the time the recorder indicates the incident began.

Instruction on the switch was not part of their training and was not repositioned as part of their training by the instructor. There is no reason to assume someone intentionally repositioned it.

The switch is at hip level and was most likely bumped into and accidentally repositioned. The indicated atmospheric conditions just before and following the incident were conducive to normal discharges with no unusual temperature variations during the outage; therefore, there was no impact on the health and safety of the public.

The Meteorological Tower temperature instruments were returned to service at 1600 hours0.0185 days
0.444 hours
0.00265 weeks
6.088e-4 months
after returning the switch to its normal position.
